What a bitch!

Mother Nature is angry. First she appeared yesterday as a nice spring day at the end of this winter season. High temp in Philly yesterday was 69 degrees. This time last night is was like 55. This morning began with a deluge of rain with temps in the upper 40's. Walking outside at 7:45 a.m., this felt pretty warm given the cold snap we have been in. At around 10:30 a.m. it was still raining, but snow began to mix in along with a fierce wind. By 10:35 a.m., it was all snow and lots of it at full force. When I went to grab a sandwich around 1:30 p.m, it was hell at 28 degrees. Any rain left on the ground was frozen, it was snowing like hell and the wind was unreal. The wind is especially bad on the corner where my building is located. There are two parks which create this huge open space between buildings where wind just funnels through. With all the ice is was just about pushing (sliding, actually) me down the block.

By around 3:30 or 4 p.m., the snow stopped. A while later it was actually sunny out. The wind however did not die down at all and in fact actually got stronger. When I walked out of work at around 7:15 p.m., the sidewalk had much more ice on it then earlier in the day. Again, I was pushed down the street by the wind. When I got back to the train station, the parking lot was basically a giant sheet of ice with small islands of un-iced ground where cars had been parked. A normal 45-60 second walk from the train to the car took about 3 or 4 minutes because of the ice and the fight against the wind.

I got back to my car and began removing the snow and ice from the wind shield. I look up and notice a car on the other side of the parking lot with it's trunk open. The owner was walking towards me, I knew to ask for a jump. So, I finished cleaning off the windshield and headed over to perform my civic duty. My 1993 Nissan Sentra with 227,000 miles which had been sitting in the cold most of the day rescued a recent model Toyota Camry. Lucky for that guy we were there.

Anyway, it was a wild day weather wise. Fun though.

Oh yeah...I forgot. When walking from the train to the car, I slipped on the ice and fell. It's amazing how close to the ground we really are.
