Our new Laptop.

We picked up a new laptop from bestbuy today. I have been so disillusioned trying to buy my camera online, I just wanted to "get" the computer.

We payed $930 total, but we are getting a $30 bestbuy gift certificate sent to us, so it was really like $900...whatever. The following is from CNet. I have been happy so far. We have 14 days to return it.

The gateway 7210GX is a 7.5-pound, mainstream notebook computer. Compared to other mainstream consumer notebooks on the market, it is very inexpensive at around $1,215. Has Wi-Fi (wireless connectivity) built-in. Powered by the AMD Athlon XP-M 2.2 GHz CPU. Features ATI Radeon IGP320M graphics with 64MB of video RAM.

Pros: Has an Athlon XP-M processor, which is somewhat more efficient than some similarly priced notebooks. In fact, the average cost of a product with this desirable a processor is $1,765. Also, this notebook has an 80GB hard drive, which is considerably larger than some similarly priced notebooks. In fact, the average cost of a product with this large a hard drive is $2,280.

Cons: Has a 7.5-pound weight. This is not out of line with the product's price, but is heavier than the average notebook on the market today. The Gateway 7210GX comes with entry-level word processing software -- serious business or academic writers probably will want to upgrade to a more powerful office suite . This notebook's ATI Radeon IGP320M graphics chip uses system RAM, which sometimes results in slower performance.
