Tonight in St. Pete...
Tonight we are going to see Medeski Martin and Wood (and then again on Sunday). Three piece neo-jazz ensemble, that I happen to really enjoy. I saw them for the first time back in 1998 at the intimate State Theater. One of the most memorable shows I've seen in St. Pete.
These guys create art. Instantaneous onstage magic...
The Cold War was done, the Gulf War just begun and somewhere in the heart of Brooklyn, Medeski Martin and Wood were born in the sun. Playing music together for the first time that summer there was an instant connection - described by all three as being very natural, very organic and very strong. As complicated as their individual pasts might have been up to that point, their collective future together as a band had just become extremely simple - stick together and make music.
