Spice...I mean oil prices to climb this coming week?

"He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing. " - Paul Muad'Dib, from the movie Dune

In Nigeria - "United States' fifth-largest[oil] supplier" - they've got some freedom fighters of their own causing havoc. Much like the Fremen in Dune, these militants are threatening attacks on tankers, pipelines and pretty much all helicopter air traffic - civilian included - to bring oil production to a stand still.

But unlike those cool stillsuit wearing Fremen, there's no weirding way going on here. But nonetheless, they are starting up some serious shit that could seriously impact the world oil supply, and thus oil prices.

"The group said...It is fighting foreign oil interests for greater local control of oil wealth in the southern region."

"We'll use our rockets on the ships to stop them from taking our oil," said the man, who gave his name as Efie Alari. His identity could not be independently verified, but the call came from a number used by the group before.

The militants have accused foreign oil companies of providing their helicopters and air strips for military operations in the oil region. They said they would now target all helicopters in the delta, including civilian aircraft.

On Saturday, the militants reiterated warnings that foreign oil workers must leave the Niger Delta, saying the expatriates were "caught up in a war, and the Nigerian government can do nothing to guarantee the security of anyone."
