Katrina Full Coverage - More quotes and concerns

Oh yeah! I hope they kept this sign around. It's gonna need
to be reposted.

Well, it looks as if lake Pontchartrain is soon to become New Orleans newest waste dump. And the surrounding wetlands which fragile ecosystems call home are soon to taste the sweetness that is "fouled with sewage, heavy metals, gasoline and other dangerous substances."* MMMMMMMMMMMM, Good!

But, it's not like they haven't tasted this before. Apparently, up until 2000 the lake wasn't considered safe to swim in. In 1972 it was closed due to "unacceptable levels of pollution which threaten the health of bathers."+
It wasn't until the 1989 that real measures began to bring about a rebirth to this magnificent body of water.

It remains to be seen whether the levels of pollution being now introduced into the lake are higher than those unsafe levels of yesteryear. But, I am imagining it's probably far worse. Who knows, maybe in another 20 years the lake will be a safe place to splash around in or to fish. But, until that day comes the lake will once again be choking on our filth. Yummy.

Random Quote:

Jefferson Parish president Aaron Broussard was even more blunt.

"Bureaucracy has murdered people in the greater New Orleans area," he said on CBS' "Early Show." "Take whatever idiot they have at the top of whatever agency and give me a better idiot. Give me a caring idiot. Give me a sensitive idiot. Just don't give me the same idiot."*
